Golden Scales
Golden Scales, the in-tank currency
Golden Scales buy tools and decorations inside the tank. They are not dollars, and they are not the same as a fish that has turned gold.

What the balance is shown buying
Store text says collected scales unlock new brushes, templates, and decorations. A screenshot of the template library shows locked fish outlines with the line “Unlock for 2” and a balance of “You have 3.” Other frames show balances such as 9,609, 9,602, and 9,595 in the corner. I treat those figures as whatever the demo build had saved, not as a starting grant for every player.
A close-up shows loose scales drifting in the water beside the counter. I do not have a published rule for how many scales a feeding session drops, so the earn rate stays blank. Guessing a drop table would be fiction.
Do not mix this up with a gold fish
The release materials and PC Gamer's hands-on describe fish that develop a metallic shimmer and can become gold with continued care. That is a look on the creature. Spending scales is a shop action. VGKami's pre-release piece also separates the two. If a tip site uses the words interchangeably, I would not follow the math.
Nothing indicates that scales are a real-money currency or that they transfer to another game. They live in this sandbox.
Questions people ask
How do I earn Golden Scales?
The store says you collect them. A per-action drop number is not published, so I will not print one.
What does Unlock for 2 mean?
A store screenshot prices a locked template at 2 scales while the player holds 3.
Are Golden Scales the same as a gold fish?
No. Scales are currency. A gold fish is a growth appearance.
